Dear Maine School Nurses,
MASN has endorsed LD 217 An Act to Require Schools to Provide Free Access to Condoms for Students in Grades 9 to 12 in the School Nurse's Office. This bill is also endorsed by the Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
ALL Maine school nurses are encouraged to sign the testimony attached to this anouncement. It is very simple.
- Click on the "registration link" above.
- Type in your town of residence
- Submit
You do need to create a Nursing Network account if you haven't already.
Our testimony and signatures will be submitted to the Maine Legislature's Education and Cultural Affairs Committee.
School nurses are encouraged to submit individual testimony with personal stories of how this would be beneficial for their students and communities. The Advocacy Guide in this Drive folder, includes testimony templates and supplemental support documents. Please share with school counselors, social workers, student and parent groups that would support this bill.
If you are a school nurse in a district with legislative member on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, please email them as well. They are listed in the Advocacy Guide.
Written testimony can be submitted to the legislature at this site. PLEASE NOTE: Testimony may not be submitted until there is a hearing date. We will notify you when the hearing date is scheduled. However, you can get your letter ready to go now!
All Maine students deserve equitable access to resources and tools to protect their health, and public schools serve every area no matter how rural.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Alana Trottier, MASN President
