Content: I am excited to talk to the Cumberland County School Nurses next week! I look forward to hearing from your team about the specific questions & challenges that arise in your schools, and figuring out how PPNNE can support you in the work that you do, effective immediately & in the future as PPNNE re-establishes a full time Educator in Maine later this year.
Questions that have come up from school nurses in the past have been both clinical [What are the trends in birth control? Are LARC methods – IUDs & Implants – okay for teens? What is emergency contraception & how does it work?] and logistical [Can teens get sexual health services without permission from a parent? How does insurance work/what to tell teens with confidentiality concerns?]. I am going to answer all of those questions!
The talk with focus on available birth control methods and STI screening & treatment, with some time allotted to discuss condom use in teenagers,
conversations about consent, and LGBTQI+ identities…and whatever else is of interest to this group.
I have 20 packets of PPNNE educational resources available, with some colorful swag to share !
