Release of the 2017 National School Climate Survey:

Posted over 5 years ago by Patricia Endsley

Hello GLSEN Friends and GSTA/GSA Advisors and Students!

GLSEN Research is very excited to announce the release of the 2017 National School Climate Survey: The Experiences of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Youth in Our Nation’s Schools, our tenth biennial survey of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) youth about their experiences in school.  The report will be released on Monday, October 15th.

What’s new this year?  Although we keep the survey mostly the same so that we can track changes over time, every year we do change it up a bit to reflect current issues and explore new areas of interest. This year, we were able to take a deeper look at student involvement in activism (including participation in GLSEN Days of Action!), LGBTQ-inclusive sex education, the experiences of LGBTQ students with disabilities, the experiences of LGBTQ immigrant students, and parents’ advocacy in their children’s schools.

We also have more in depth examinations of trans/GNC policies, including how many students have them in their school, and what effect they have on school climate and students’ experiences. And finally, we were able to examine the experiences of students who attend single-sex schools.

How do I learn about the findings?  GLSEN Research will be hosting the webinar the public webinar on October 15th at 4pm ETMake sure to sign up! You can use and reference the attachments located in this share drive linked below which gives the date and time for the public Report Release and Webinar on the 15th.
