Seizure Safe School Communities - School Nurses Improving Epilepsy Education, Systems of Care, and Health Outcomes

 NASN is looking for a total of 6 school districts in at least 2 states interested in advancing the equitable care for students with seizures.  This work is part of a five-year CDC funded project focused on the pivotal role the school nurse plays in coordinating a support system for students with epilepsy. 

Six state school nurse "navigators" will be compensated for their work collaborating with NASN and connecting practicing school nurses with professional development and resources to create a seizure safe culture in their schools, and helping students self-manage and transition from pediatric to adult care.  

For those states that recently passed Seizure Safe School legislation, or have this legislation on the horizon, this partnership can help prepare to implement the required school training components of the legislation. 

NASN is well aware of the constraints COVID continues to place on school nurses.  Full participation in this project would not begin until late spring 2022, with flexibility to extend beyond that time.  Indicating a strong interest does not fully commit you to this partnership with NASN but will help move project planning along. 

School nurses know the health, social, and academic struggles of students with seizures.  NASN wants to support both the school nurse and these students they serve.
